Dear Calamus-Wheatland Parents and Guardians,
At Monday night's (July 13, 2026) public hearing, the Calamus-Wheatland CSD Board of Education approved updates to the 2026–2027 school calendar.
The approved changes include:
Second Semester:
Second semester will now begin on Tuesday, January 19, 2027.
Teacher Professional Development:
Our teacher professional development day will move from Monday, January 4 to Monday, January 18, allowing it to remain the day before students return for second semester. Monday, January 4 will be a student school day.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Day: Students will not have school on Monday, January 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Amended CWCSD 2026-27 Calendar
This adjustment is the result of a recent change in Iowa law that requires school districts to complete a second certified enrollment count on January 15. The Iowa Department of Education has provided guidance stating that students must graduate after this second count date in order for school districts to receive full state funding.
While we understand that calendar changes can affect family schedules, making this adjustment now allows us to comply with state requirements while protecting the funding that supports our students, classrooms, and educational programs.
